Salvation

June 25, 2006

A little over a month and a half into summer break from my LIS studies I found myself in the thrall of a rather distressing malaise. The cause, I now realize, is too much to do combined with too little to think about. What began as a well deserved break from work slipped into days filled with childcare, house painting and other good things. But the fact of the matter is: I’m not happy unless I’m learning. I’m not satisfied unless I’m participating. Neither can occur in a vacuum.

I start this blog because I need a place to think out loud. I need people to respond to what I have to say. I can’t afford the phone bill, or the shrink (besides, I ought to use my shrink for other things…;) My friends do listen, but I love them all too much to subject them to this on a daily basis. I’m egotistical enough to hope that I might say something worthwhile. In short, I’m just like all the other bloggers out there– thank god!

  1. Hi! I just clicked onto your blog from your LibraryThing account. We share 14 books in common, and they are an interesting assortment so I decided to check out your blog.

  2. found you through library thing also (great site!) and was hoping to find a blog by a librarian… I am just starting to take library classes myself, and have 10 years of library experience. Hopefully you’ll update soon!

  3. Hi, I just clicked my way to your blog from LibraryThing, we share something like 40-odd books. Anyways, I completely relate to what you’re saying about not being happy unless you’re learning. Summer is always one of the toughest times for me, I get caught up in the minutieae that I lose time for my individual intellectual pursuits. I’m feeling better now that school has started back up (at least for me) and I hope that your lack of updates corresponds to that fact. I do hope you post again soon, I’d love to hear more thoughts.
